International Ltd., provides electronic security and
fire protection solutions in over 100 countries. With
$11.5 billion in annual sales and 90,000 employees,
its products and services are used to safeguard firefighters,
prevent fires, deter thieves and protect people and
property the world over.
The Challenges
Security Camera
Domes
As a leader in the Security Industry, Tyco needed
a large (approximately 6-inch diameter), optically-correct
CCTV security dome, and they wanted the repeatability,
quality, and cost-effectiveness of injection molding
during a time when thermoforming was the manufacturing
method of choice for domes of this size. Further, Tyco
needed this dome to be produced in clear and tint resins,
as well as with chrome and gold metallization.
Tyco was also interested in the value that could
be added by having the supplier of the CCTV security
dome manufacture related non-optical component parts,
provide assembly services, final packaging, and drop
shipping to their global distribution centers.
Fire Detection Prisms
Also being a leader in the Fire Detection and Suppression
Industry, Tyco needed optically-correct tooling to
produce injection molded prisms that would be used
to detect fire. This would be an extremely high volume
part so the tool design and reliability were paramount.
Additionally, Tyco needed these parts shipped directly
to their manufacturing contractor overseas so the molder
needed to establish and maintain an excellent working
relationship with that organization.
